History
Mie University's predecessor, Mie Normal School, was founded in 1874 and is the oldest of the existing five faculties.
Education
Mie University has five faculties of Humanities, Law and Economics; Education; Medicine; Engineering and Bioresources, and also six graduate schools those with Graduate School of Regional Innovation Studies. In addition, there are many facilities such as College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Life Science Research Center, Community-University Research Cooperation Center, Center for International Education and Research, Mie Global Environment Center for Education & Research, Center for Information Technologies and Networks, Higher Education Development Center, and Center for Student Support.

In Mie University, we strive to enhance various creative applied and basic research activities, and keep our traditions to develop further international research in scientific fields and innovative research contributing towards the society.
Career
Career Development Education
Educational Program for Career Peer Supporter Qualification
We encourage students to gain the beginner and upper level qualifications of Mie University in order to obtain a wide range of work experiences. The students who have finished this program become peer supporters to assist the education of students.
Education for Sustainable Development
We encourage students to gain various environmental qualifications. The students who have completed the subjects specified by this program will be granted the "Certificate for Education for Sustainable Development Program."

International Career Development Program
For the development and nurturing of international personnel, we offer six programs:
Foreign Language Program:Students have opportunities to participate in foreign language programs at our partnership universities for English and for German.International Education Program:We offer courses for both Japanese and international students: a) enhancement of communication skill in English; b) deepening cross-cultural understanding with international and Japanese students; c) participation in the International Internship Program and the Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium;Library services
The Mie University Library has three functions-research support, learning support and regional contribution-based on the three pillars of service, and it collects/provides extensive learning information necessary for research and studies.
Medical services
The Mie University Faculty of Medicine Hospital opened a new hospital/medical treatment ward in January 2012 and is now implementing highly advanced medical technology in an advanced treatment hospital.
Promotion of High School Education( Educational Collaboration between Universities and High Schools)
Mie University contributes toward promotion of the "Super Science High School Program(SSH)" and "Science Partnership Program(SPP)." We also offer conferences for promoting educational collaboration between universities and high schools, and accredited open classes and summer seminars to high school students. In addition, Mie University faculty members visit high schools and give "Delivery Lectures." In 2013, we visited high schools around 130 times for 5,200 students.
