History

National Chiayi University was formed in February 2000 by merging two existing colleges in Chiayi, National Chiayi Institute of Technology (NCIT) and National Chiayi Teachers College(NCTC). National Chiayi Institute of Technology was first founded in April, 1919 as ´´Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry Public School´´ and the National Chiayi Teachers College was formed in 1957.

Education

The University now has six colleges, which include seven doctoral programs, 42 full-time master’s degree programs, twelve part-time master’s degree programs, and 38 undergraduate programs. National Chiayi University is one of the top comprehensive universities in Taiwan, covering a wide range of domains, such as Life Science, Agriculture, Management, Science and Engineering, Humanities and Arts, and Education.

Research

  • The aim of Taiwanese Culture Department of National Chiayi University is to deeply explore Taiwanese culture and to integrate Taiwanese history, geography, language, art and music into Taiwanese culture researches.
  • The main purposes of our department are to integrate the resources from our department and to investigate some fields related to Taiwanese history, geography, language, art and music, especially in promoting the researches in Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region. Besides, our department is responsible for holding conferences and international symposium regularly in order to provide more opportunities for researchers to exchange their research experiences.

Our mission is to open up new perspectives,explore new modes of thinking and apply new methodologies so as to select individuals of outstanding talent for thenation's public services and professions, and in so doing, play a driving role inadvancig Taiwan's competitive profile.

Student services

Student Counseling Center is located at 2F, student activity center on Lan-Tan campus. Our goal is to assists students with educational, social and personal concerns that may interfere with their academic progress.

Counseling Services are provided at no charge. We deliver our services through individual counseling, group guidance, psychological tests, and mental hygiene program. Issues often addressed in counseling include: study/test taking concerns; stress/anxiety reduction; relationship concerns; depression; family concerns; eating disorders; sleeping disorder; sexual concerns; grief and loss; and other related concerns.

Housing services

NCYU provides accommodations for about 4,170 students on the Lantan, Linsen, Minsyong, Sinmin and Jin-de hall campuses. New students, mainland students , foreign students, overseas Chinese students, and mid or low-income households´ students are given priority. Dormitory surrounding is peace and quiet, and facility is faultless. We not only have air conditioner and internet but also have restaurant ,social hall and so on.

Library services

Nation al Chiayi University (NCYU) was formed in February 2000 by merging the National Chiayi Institute of Technology (NCIT) and National Chiayi TeachersCollege (NCTC). A library is available on each of the four campuses to offer teachers and students with teaching, research,information, and humanity culture development needs.

ICT services

The mission of the Information Network Division is to plan, build, manage, and maintain the campus network. Apart from supporting the University in building a full-scale information network, the division also actively provides technical consultation and services including DNS, web proxy, ftp, BBS, net news, dial-up connections, ADSL, and wireless networks etc.

Campus life

The University comprises four campuses and a practicum forest, for a total land mass of 285.32 hectares. The four campuses include the Lantan Campus, Minsyong Campus, Sinmin Campus and Linsen Campus. Lantan Campus, the administration headquarter is situated in the well-known scenic area between Lantan Reservoir and Renyitan Reservoir. It accommodates the College of Agriculture, College of Science and Engineering and College of Life Sciences. Minsyong Campus, situated in Minsyong Township, accommodates the Teachers College and College of Humanities and Arts. Sinmin Campus accommodates College of Management and Linsen Campus is providing educational services to the local community.

Student clubs

There are 70 student clubs on Lantan campus, 46 student clubs on Minhsiung campus, 11 student clubs on Shinmin campus.
