About

History

In 1841 in a three-story house on Houston Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic boarding school for girls, was founded. The Academy relocated in 1847 to an area just north of New York City on a hill overlooking the village of Manhattanville.

In March of 1917, Manhattanville was chartered as a college by the New York State Board of Regents.

Education

We believe higher education elevates students' knowledge both academically and practically. That's why we offer 50+ undergraduate areas of study and 70+ graduate programs, degrees, and certificates reinforced by internships, career counseling, mentors, and networking opportunities. We call it outcomes-based learning.

Career

Manhattanville College is an independent, co-educational liberal arts institution dedicated to academic excellence, and social and civic action. Founded in 1841, the College offers more than 50 undergraduate areas of study in the arts and sciences, as well as graduate programs in education, business, and creative writing. Manhattanville prepares students to be ethical and socially responsible leaders in a global community. Located just 30 minutes from New York City, Manhattanville serves 1,700 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students from more than 50 countries and 30 states. Manhattanville College is committed to equality of educational opportunity, and is an equal opportunity employer.

Services

Student services

The Valiant Advising Team coordinates the College’s advising system and its staff serves as the Primary Academic Advisors for all undeclared First Year and Sophomore students at the College. The Team supports students by providing information about academic policies and degree requirements, assists students in the course selection process, and offers students support and appropriate referrals to other campus resources.

Housing services

The Center for Student Accommodations partners with students to empower them to take ownership of their college journey. By modeling problem-solving strategies, our staff helps to promote self-determination and self-advocacy skills in order to enhance students' abilities to use their own strengths to address challenges. These are skills students will carry with them beyond their years at Manhattanville.

Library services

Conveniently open 24 hours on weekdays, the library provides each student with ample opportunities to study, find readings, and broaden the mind. Every library staff member is here to help students achieve academic success.

The Manhattanville College Library is the intellectual and social center of Manhattanville, offering impressive collections and outstanding services to suit each user’s needs.
