Founded in 1871, the University of Central Missouri is one of the oldest universities in Missouri. We have a rich educational heritage of building lifelong learners dedicated to service. Over the years, UCM has gone through a variety of name changes, each one reflecting the changed nature of the institution. Founded as Normal School No. 2, it later became known as Warrensburg Teachers College. In 1919, the name was changed to Central Missouri State Teachers College. In 1945, it became Central Missouri State College and in 1972, Central Missouri State University. The institution was named the University of Central Missouri in 2006.
The University of Central Missouri believes its responsibility is to enrich each student’s perspective through a cumulative experience that starts with academic rigor and integrates applied learning and servant-leadership opportunities. Our model of continuous learning allows each student to find and fulfill his or her own sense of purpose. By engaging students with multiple sources of learning and creating a dynamic environment that encourages individuals to find their passions and reach beyond themselves, UCM prepares students by giving them knowledge and experiences that broaden and deepen their education so they may flourish in a world of accelerated change.
Our programs reflect our mission, which focuses on student learning and includes a commitment to both service and excellence.
97% of our graduates say their academic program prepared them for success. UCM also has a 97% first destination success rate, which means our graduates are either working, going to graduate school, planning to go to graduate school, serving in the military, participating in a volunteer or service program and those who are not seeking employment. The Career Services Center is an integral part of that preparation. Here you can explore internship and career opportunities, strengthen your job search skills and build important connections for your future. Whether you’re an alumni or a student on the Warrensburg or Lee’s Summit campus, Career Services at UCM is here for you—at no cost—throughout your life.
Living on campus is a great choice and an integral part of the "complete" college experience. With a broad spectrum of opportunities designed to complement your college experience, you will be part of a community where you can grow and experience life independently, yet have support to help you excel on campus. Plus, there is always something happening.
