About

History

Just over a century ago, the Marist Brothers came to New York's Hudson River Valley to train young men to continue the Brothers' vocation as great educators. What started as a seminary for the training of future Marist Brothers has developed into one of the leading colleges of the arts and sciences in the country.

Education

  • At Marist, we demonstrate excellence in education through an emphasis on quality teaching in a small classroom setting. Our dedicated faculty really get to know their students, leading to mentorship, joint research opportunities, and intellectual guidance.
  • Excellence in education also includes a forward-looking educational philosophy that incorporates the use of technology and meaningful learning opportunities outside the classroom–everything from internships to study abroad to leadership development programs.
  • Marist follows in the tradition of many great institutions that were founded as seminaries and developed into independent academies of higher learning.

Research

  • The School of Science at Marist has competitive funding available to support science majors in any discipline who are committed to pursuing a research project under the supervision of a Marist faculty member.
  • The purpose of the funding is to provide real research experiences for students who have a genuine desire and ability to pursue scientific research. Interested students should initially make contact with a faculty member who is willing to donate his or her time to act as a research mentor. The student should then discuss a suitable project to pursue.

Career

  • The Center for Career Services offers a variety of programs and information to assist students and alumni with setting career goals and seeking employment. Choosing a career path is a process that unfolds throughout the college years and beyond. It involves discovering individual potential, learning about career fields, and gaining career-related experience in high quality organizations.
  • Matriculated students, both undergraduate and graduate, are encouraged to become involved with the Center early in their college years to plan effectively and make informed career decisions. Career Services also promotes a strong alumni network, which fosters career advancement for its valued alumni.

Services

Student services

  • The Murray Student Center serves as the focal point of the College, bringing together all members of the community and college life.
  • The original building, a 66,000-square-foot, three-story structure, was completed in 1965. Renovations and expansion during the summer of 1994 added an additional 63,000 square feet. In 2014, the Music Building (which is connected to the Student Center) was opened, and the renovations were complete.

Housing services

The mission of the Office of Accommodations and Accessibility is to support students with documented disabilities in becoming empowered, independent learners by providing the appropriate accommodations and services necessary to access the educational opportunities at Marist College.

Library services

The Marist College Library was originally housed on the top floor of Greystone in 1928. In 1945, reference, periodical and work areas took over the second floor as well, and then in 1949, the Library also claimed Greystone's lowest level. The Library remained in Greystone for 35 years.

The burgeoning library moved from Greystone to Donnelly Hall in 1963.

Medical services

The purpose of Student Health Services is to foster and maintain the good health of Marist College students through preventative measures, education, and treatment of illnesses, injuries and emotional problems.

Student Life

Campus life

At Marist, students receive an outstanding education without any limitations of location. They can avail themselves of opportunities at our main campus and facilities in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley, our Marist NYC location in the heart of midtown Manhattan, our campus in Florence, Italy, and any number of our convenient online courses and programs of study.  With so many enriching academic and cultural experiences available to them, Marist students are limited only by their imaginations.

Sports facilities

  • The Intramural and Club Sports Program aims to complement academic and social experiences with the development of organizational skills, leadership qualities, and an appreciation for sportsmanship and team effort through athletics opportunities and community service.
  • The primary sports that are offered here at Marist College are: Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Flag Football, and Softball with various other items available. The main goal is to be able to meet whatever sport the student-body would like to have. About 65% of the student population participates with our numbers increasing each of the last three years.
