BESIGN School is an institution of higher education where students become designers, enable to address the big issues of our planet and people. Designers have the adequate mindset to be user related, to have technical insights together with the sensitivity to develop the future for a liveable future. BESIGN School is settled in the beautiful environment of the Côte d'Azur, south of France.

History

Foundation in 2012 by Maurille Lariviere, co-founder and director of Strate, Ecole de design, at Paris, Marc Van Peteghem, naval architect, co-founder of the agency VPLP and the NGO Watever at Bangladesh, and Patrick Le Quement, director of design at Ford, Audi-WV, and Renault.

In 2014 BESIGN The Sustainable Design School becomes founding member of the University Côte d’Azur.

Education

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School offers two programmes: a 3 years Bachelor degree and a 2 year Master degree.

The first three years are based on the learning of designer tools, such as drawing skills, 2D and 3D computer programmes, design methodology, user sociology, and Sustainable Development. In addition, students learn to introduce creative thinking and various concepts of sustainable design thinking into the project-based learning experience.

During the two Master years students focus on research methodology, design strategy, project and team management, and on their diploma project and thesis writing.

Courses and course material are in English.

Research

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School collaborates with the doctoral schools of UCA – University Côte d’Azur in Nice to co-conduct sustainable design research. The contents vary from sociology to biology, anthropology or urban issue-based problematics.

Career

The cultural skills, tools and methods of sustainable development make it possible to position the designer with important strategic assets, that are eagerly awaited on the job market.

The possible positions are: 

- Sustainable designer integrated into a company (design, innovation or CSR department) in all sectors of activity. 

- Sustainable designer in a design agency, or in innovation and strategy consulting firms. 

- Freelance sustainable designer with companies, agencies and NGOs 

- Sustainable designer in the creation of start-ups.

Student services

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School offers individual support for administrative issues as well as information and support for any projects related to international periods, for incoming or outgoing students.

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School offers a range of 14 international partner institutions in countries such as India, China, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, United States of America, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Turkey and Japan. There are active exchange activities offered in the curriculum.

Housing services

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School does not provide on-campus accommodation. Students live either in private flats or in any of the various public or private student residences in Nice, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Antibes, Juan les Pins or Cannes.

The train station being only 5 walking minutes away from BESIGN The Sustainable Design School, it is easy to reach these cities.

Nice offers various public student residences for affordable prices. BESIGN The Sustainable Design School has also agreements with private student residences, giving special prices for our students.

Library services

As a member of UCA – Université Côte d’Azur, several library are facilities opened to our students (human sciences, communication, …).

ICT services

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School provides full IT support to students. Software based courses are in classrooms equipped with computers for 2D and 3D software’s (Adobe Suite InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Rhino 3D, SolidWorks, Keyshot, Cinema 4D, …). 

Medical services

Facilities for healthcare are off campus.

-          The UCA – University Côte d’Azur provide a free medical and a psychological assistance.

-          The area around the campus offers a choice of all kind of medical care. The healthcare system for students, including international students, is for free in France.

Campus life

The institution is near the city center of Cagnes-sur-Mer, which is a typical romantic harbor town. Nearby supermarkets, restaurants, bars, bakery shops, medical centers, offer all you need. It is less than 10 minutes by bus to get to the international airport of Nice, and 15 minutes by train to Nice downtown. The nearby cities of Cannes, Antibes, Monaco also offer various cultural events.

As the school is between sea and mountains, water based sports and hiking in the summer season, skiing and snowboarding in the winter season, that’s what Nice is famous for. The campus is only 5 minutes walking from the beach.

Sports facilities

Around the campus students find all sorts of sport facilities. The city of Nice, which counts 30.000 students per year, offers all kind of facilities as well.

Students mostly enjoy the natural environment between mountains and sea to enjoy outdoors activities.

Student clubs

Since 2013 BESIGN The Sustainable Design School has an active Student Union "The SEEDS". Its main goal is to create an active network of students and professionals who works on different issues : associations, events, professional and international.

The SEEDS also proposes sports, music band, vegetable gardening and permaculture, cooking, special events, …

Students practice music in our music recording studio.

BESIGN The Sustainable Design School is co-founder and member of UCA - University Côte d’Azur, accredited by the French government.

The education at BESIGN School has been granted with the RNCP certification (National register of professional certification).
