History
We are one of the largest chemistry schools in the country and we pride ourselves on providing an exceptional learning experience for students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Education
Our approach to chemistry is cross-disciplinary, meaning that we work closely with practitioners in a range of subjects so our knowledge sits within a wider context. We attract the best in both students and academic appointments, and many of the lecturers who teach on our courses are world renowned. With Manchester currently enjoying its status as European City of Science, this is an exciting place to study with a great range of opportunities for young scientists.
Research
Research in the School reflects the interdisciplinary nature of modern chemistry research. Nine interconnected research themes build on our world-leading expertise to develop capabilities and to use them to target the challenges facing society.
Career
We are the Careers Service for students and recent graduates of The University of Manchester.
Our aim is to improve the employability of our clients by providing them with key skills and knowledge. To help them formulate and implement well-informed choices about their careers we deliver and manage numerous services, projects, courses and events. We work in partnership with colleagues across The University of Manchester and with organisations in the UK and across the world.

The team is subdivided into the International Office and the International Relations department.
The International Office:

Housing services
Living in University accommodation gives our international students security and their family back home peace of mind. What's more, we offer guaranteed accommodation to international students who meet certain criteria.
As an international student coming to Manchester for the first time, you’ll benefit from the opportunity to live and study alongside British students, in a safe and welcoming environment.
With over 8,000 rooms, we offer a variety of types, costs and locations. Much of our accommodation is very near to the main University buildings and all of it is within two miles (three kilometres) of our campus.
Library services
Self-service machines are located on Blue Ground floor and within the High Demand collection at the Main Library.
There are also machines at Joule, Precinct and Stopford site libraries.
You will need your Library card and PIN.
Instructions for using the self-issue machines are displayed on the touch screens but please do ask a member of Library staff for help if you need it.

Campus life
The University of Manchester is large, yet compact enough to give the best of both worlds: a city life and a campus community.
Our campus occupies a large area close to the city centre. It is dominated by grand Victorian and more modern buildings, but also has quiet corners, landscaped gardens, cafes and common rooms where you can relax and spend time with friends. We have places of worship for the majority of faiths.
