Student services

The International Office (IO) is the University’s central point of contact for all international issues.

We coordinate international partnerships and the university’s cooperation projects, develop and implement programmes with international partners.

We provide advice to German students, graduates and academics when planning and organising international projects or periods of stay abroad.

We advise and provide information to prospective students from abroad and are responsible for their admission. Foreign students receive support for any study-related, legal or social matters.

Housing services

If you choose to study in Greifswald, you ought to start searching for accommodation quickly and leave yourself enough time, because the housing market floods with students, especially just before the start of semester. Thanks to the good accessibility of all of the University’s facilities by bike, the location of the accommodation is not as important as the rent and furnishings. For those of you who have to come a long way to sort your accommodation, we suggest couchsurfing with local students. Also, youth hostels and special semester offers from the hotels can be good options.

Library services

Greifswald University Library serves as a central literature and information supplier for studying, research, and teaching. With its different locations it provides the university and the public with learning environments and working stations, it houses more than 2.2 mio. printed books, as well as thousands of electronic media and databases, and offers guidance and instruction.

ICT services

The services offered by the computer centre range from central tasks such as the running of the data network (switches, firewall, DNS and DHCP services), provision of the communication infrastructure (telephony and e-mail) and the central user management, via the VPN system to the management of components for the University’s administration and compute servers.

Sports facilities

If interested, University students, employees and their families have numerous possibilities for athletic activities: The programme ranges from Aikido and football to yoga and zumba.

Student clubs

Traditionally, Greifswald’s students meet in student clubs. There are currently five; the newest has existed since the winter semester of 1992/93, the oldest since the early 1960s.

The clubs are popular alternatives to discos and pubs. They are organised as registered associations and operated by students.

A proven quality assurance system encourages the high quality of teaching through regular external and internal evaluations of the degree courses and student feedback. The University received its system accreditation in 2015 and is taking part in several audit procedures.
