The goal of the Smart Industry program from University of Pisa is to train young researchers able to investigate and propose innovative industrial systems and processes whose competitive leverage stems from the integration of advanced components and methods of information processing and management. New opportunities of cross-fertilization and research will rise from the cultural roots of Industrial Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies and Computer Science; these opportunities will have value in their own rights and through their mutual integration.
The Doctorate is proposed jointly by the three Universities in synergy with the existing initiatives on industrial research already established in the Tuscany area. A strong research collaboration with the industrial sector will be actively promoted, focusing on those areas in which the I4.0 paradigm may represent the fundamental innovation factor in production processes and/or production and supply chains, leading to new products, services and business models. The methodology will consist in a didactic offer to establish the scientific basis, an individual specialization in sectors with adequate scientific and research depth, an aggregation of the various research themes toward the I4.0 objectives.
- The Doctorate will have research and didactic initiatives within the 9 interdisciplinary enabling technologies of I4.0 (Advanced Manufacturing; Additive Manufacturing; Augmented Reality; Simulation; Horizontal/Vertical Integration; Industrial Internet; Cloud; Cybersecurity; Big Data & Analytics).
