
Overview
The Gender Studies degree program from Sabanci University has two objectives: first, to provide advanced education and research oppportunities for educators and scholars-to-be; and second, to serve the needs of professionals for careers in areas such as public policy, non-governmental organizations, and human rights research and advocacy.
The PhD program is designed as a collaborative, cross-divisional enterprise with faculty members from the disciplines of Anthropology, Sociology, Literature, Political Science, Conflict Studies, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Management, as well as the Natural Sciences.
PhD in Gender Studies - Program Objectives
As an inter- and transdisciplinary PhD program, Gender Studies at Sabancı University investigates how relations of gender and sexuality are embedded in social, political, economic, and cultural formations through a wide variety of academic backgrounds to introduce the doctoral students to the concepts, methods and cutting-edge research that shape gender analyses.

General requirements
- People with no psychology background at all may be asked to take some extra courses at the beginning of their program.
- PhD programs in Political Science and Economics admit candidates with undergraduate or master’s degrees. PhD programs in Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, History and Gender Studies admit only candidates with master’s degrees. Admitted candidates are expected to have completed their degrees by the time of registration for the PhD program.
- Applications by international applicants studying abroad are valid only after the approval and recognition of the last graduated higher education institution and the course of study by the Turkish Higher Education Council. The necessary enquiry is made by the University.
Tuition Fee
PhD students receive a full-tuition waiver scholarship with additional benefits if applicable.
