Domus Academy is a living laboratory. An incubator of talents and a springboard for interdisciplinary adventures. A place where stellar careers are launched. At Domus Academy, we can help you become a protagonist in the highly competitive world of fashion and design.

History

In the early eighties, Milan emerged as the epicenter of Italian design. Yet no one in the city was teaching design in a formalized way. Top art critics and designers recognized an extraordinary opportunity to fill this void and mentor the next generation of designers. In 1982, they founded Domus Academy, Italy’s first postgraduate design school.

Education

Offering one-year master’s courses in a wide variety of design specializations, the school centers around its unique “learning by designing” methodology.

This means you can gain knowledge and practical skills by solving real-life design problems in collaboration with some of the most exciting brands in fashion, product design, interaction design, luxury goods, and more. In workshops, internships, and/or field experiences, you will work directly with companies to address the most contemporary design challenges in fresh and original ways. And you will do so under the guidance of faculty members who are professionals and opinion leaders in their fields.

Career

Alumni of Domus Academy are doing great things in the world of design.

One year after graduation, 92% of our alumni are working. Some as entrepreneurs, some at boutique design agencies, and others at major companies such as Condé Nast, Levi Strauss, Whirlpool, and more.

Check out the success stories and bios in this section to see why our alums make us so proud.

Our Alumni Association hosts a reunion each year during Milan Design Week. If you’re an alum of Domus Academy, join our Facebook page or LinkedIn group to stay in touch with your classmates and hear about events and opportunities.

Student services

Our Student Life Office helps foreign students with bureaucratic issues, organizes fun extracurricular activities, and makes discounts available for cultural and other events.

Housing services

Available from the first day of enrolment, Domus Academy offers its students a free Housing Service to facilitate searching for and selecting accommodation for their stay in Milan. Thanks to agreements between Domus Academy and private landlords, double or single rooms in shared apartment, or full apartments are available for temporary stays.

Library services

Domus Academy students have access to a superb library that houses books and magazines covering subject areas including design, architecture, fashion and business. The library also provides the students the access to important online databases related to the subject areas they study.

ICT services

Each master’s program has a dedicated directory on the Domus Academy server containing teaching materials and a personal folder for each student. The school also provides numerous workstations loaded with the latest releases of leading software programs. Apps are available for mobile devices. A help desk gives students expert assistance in resolving computer and wireless problems quickly.

Medical services

We have special agreements with local medical centers and dentists. If you need a regular medical check-up or a visit to a specialist, we can inform you about options. Our team can also help you get health insurance in Italy.

Campus life

Our 13-building campus, which we share with NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti), is located in the Navigli (canal) district of Milan. It is close to public transportation and not far from the city center, with its historic monuments and lively shopping streets. With more than 400 students from over 50 countries studying here, our campus is a truly vibrant, multicultural environment. It also features several world-class facilities.

Sports facilities

Interested students from Domus and NABA can join our men’s football (soccer) or basketball team or the women’s volleyball team. Students train together and compete in tournaments with other Milanese universities. We also host an annual on-campus sport tournament, with participation open to all.

Recreational classes and clubs such as Biodanza, Dancing Club, Drama Club, and yoga are offered on campus.

Student clubs

We facilitate fun extracurricular activities so you can socialize with your international and Italian classmates outside of class. We host welcome breakfasts, student parties, movie nights, and cultural trips such as street art tours in Milan. We also organize short trips such as ski weekends and city visits in Italy and beyond, where you can discover the beauty and charms of Europe.

Accreditation

Graduates of Domus Academy’s Master’s Programmes earn a degree that is recognised throughout Europe and the world, receiving an Academic Master’s Degree (60 ECTS credits) accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), in addition to a Domus Academy Master’s Diploma. The combination of accredited coursework and real-life professional projects gives students the opportunity to build on their academic foundation, while gaining valuable work experience directly applicable to their future careers.

An overall view

I believe that my university offers excellent opportunities for young people, in fact there are many free courses and workshops to participate in. The university environment is welcoming and not very competitive, this makes it much easier to establish deep and true human relationships with your classmates. Obviously many tend to choose scientific disciplines but I believe that this university should be considered prestigious especially for the humanistic disciplines.
