Chang Gung University

History

Chang Gung University was established in April 1987 as Chang Gung Medical College, with the mission of training outstanding medical personnel. To meet the needs of the country's economic development, it later added departments and graduate schools of engineering and management, broadening its instructional resources and educating talented workers in medicine, engineering, and management.

Education

The University currently consists of the College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and College of Management; under which are undergraduate programs that include many different departments.

Student services

The main mission of the Office of Student Affairs is to cultivate a campus environment that is conducive for learning, where it may care for and assist the students, both physically and mentally. 

Furthermore, it aims to assist students to develop sound personalities during their study at the university, by providing a pleasant living environment and abundant opportunities for students to learn and grow. 

Housing services

Residential areas, which include dormitories for faculty and students, are reasonably-priced and provide an excellent study environment.

Yun De Building:

  • Each room is a four-person suite, sharing one set of lavatory/showering facilities.
  • Beds (excluding mattresses), desks, desk lights, bookshelves, chairs, wardrobes, drawers, and internal extension lines are available.
  • Every boarding student has a personal network access port to enjoy around the clock free online service.
  • Amenity room, laundry room, pay phone, and tea room are available on all floors.
  • The laundry room is equipped with washing machines and dryers.

Chong De Building:

  • Each room is for 2 or 3 people.

Ming De Building:

  • Each room is a four-person suite.

Library services

The Chang Gung University Library houses an audiovisual center, book and periodical stacks, an online search room, group study rooms, and study areas.

The library serves the programs of study and research of the University's teachers and students with its extensive collection of literature in medical science, engineering, management, and humanities and social sciences.

ICT services

The Computer Center owns six computer labs and one maintenance desk. Computer labs are open to all faculties and students of the university.

The maintenance desk provides maintenance services to all personal computers at the campus. The Center also provides an advanced network environment to all faculty, staff and students.

Campus life

Chang Gung University (CGU) is a thriving residential campus and community. It sits on 37 acres of foothills and plain at the rim of Taipei City.

The University's campus covers an area of 37.13 hectares; major structures include the Medical Science Building, Engineering Building, Third Teaching Building, Second Medical Science Building, student dormitories, Student Activity Center, and Library.

These buildings provide a total of 354,849 square meters of floor space. There is thus approximately 60.6 square meters of campus space and 57.9 square meters indoor space per student.

The campus facilities are divided into three functional areas: teaching and research, recreation, and residential areas.

Sports facilities

  • The university provides a full range of facilities for sports and extracurricular activities, including student association activity rooms, indoor space for cultural activities and leisure, and outdoor sports areas.
  • Students compete in varsity sports. In addition, students, faculty and staff can participate in intramural sports and physical education courses, and enjoy state-of-the-art recreational facilities. The annual permit to the Fitness Center is available to all CGU faculty, staff and students at 600 NT a year.

The University received its initial accreditation by the AACSB in August 2016 with a validity period of 5 years. In 2018, the university undertook the Ministry of Education's Collegiate Assessment of the Environmental Management on Campus.
