HoMe was founded on the April 1, 1992. The campus, however, has been an institution of higher education since 1954. Up to 1993 the technical college “Carl Schorlemmer” was located here. Today the 44-hectare-area is home to 28 buildings or parts of buildings which have been extensively refurbished. It also has sports facilities and there are extensive green areas.
13 Bachelor's and 10 Master's programs are offered in four departments. In addition, a number of continuing education programs are available.
HoMe is the center for applied sciences in the southern half of Saxony-Anhalt. Our technical equipment far exceeds the average standards in Germany. These assets, in connection with the expertise of our faculty and student body, has made HoMe a competent and desirable partner for many companies.Every department is involved in individual and innovative projects. They offer many opportunities to involve our interested and committed students. Topics like optimizing corporate management, dealing with social issues, and the cultural development of the region as well as technical challenges are the main focus of our academic education.
Since 2009, a careers service has been in existence at HoMe. The Careers Service belongs to the Department of Further Training and Personnel Transfer.The department is a consultancy center for students and graduates seeking advice, alumni, businesses and co-operation partners."Advice instead of scientific mediation" is the principle of our career service. Our Buddy Service is designed to make it easier for our international exchange students to quickly get accommodated and feel at home in Merseburg. The “buddies” are German and international students from the university who are familiar with Merseburg and the university. They help incoming international students with the formalities of registering with the city and daily life issues. They also organize trips and other social events.Although the majority of classes are held in German there are classes and projects in English for our international students.
It is up to you where you live: the traditional student in a dormitory, the high-grade student in the Bankhaus.
The campus in Merseburg offers excellent possibilities for free time activities. The university has a theater with its own stage and mask workshop and very extensive sports facilities suitable for sports competitions. Three student clubs offer a varied evening program on almost every day of the week, there is child care provision for the young generation, and both Protestant and Catholic student communities are active here.
As sport is one of the most important free time activities at HoMe, we put special emphasis on it. There are two ways to join our Sports Center: directly via HoMe or indirectly via the Sportverbund HSG Merseburg, e.V.
There are three traditional student clubs on the campus of HoMe. They are normally open on each working day, and their many activities leave no room for boredom.The Alchimistenfalle, for instance, was elected Germany’s best student club in 2002. They organize Merseburg’s largest party for Men’s Day in May.Reaktor organizes parties and events covering a variety of music from indie to techno.Another highlight is Merseburger Fasching - the city’s carnival.
