On September 21st, 1925, the first stone was placed for what would today be one of the most historical, prestigious institutions in Chilean higher education.  That day the Universidad Católic de Valparaíso was born.The beginnings of our campus were made possible thanks to the generosity of doña Isabel Caces de Brown, a lady of renown within the port city.

The researchers that make up the NBC have structured themselves in such a way to develop capacities in several important research fields like Bio-Molecules, Bio-Catalysis, and Environmental Biotechnology, through scientific research projects and in conjunction with the public and private sectors.The NBC presents a vast research and development trajectory in the following areas: synthesis and purification of bio-molecules, which involves everything from the basic aspects of construction of biological systems up to its productive use and scaling; design and application of bio-catalysts, which includes everything from the basic aspects of its construction up to development and optimization of its useful processes.
