Munich University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities for applied sciences in Germany. Thanks to the wide range of courses , a strong focus on applied research and practical orientation with partners from business, society and politics, it offers students excellent opportunities on the job market and in science.

History

The University of Applied Sciences - München was founded in 1971 by the amalgamation of seven colleges of technology and higher education, some of which date back to the early 19th century. Today it is the largest university of its kind in Bavaria and one of the largest in Germany.

Education

The courses at the Munich University of Applied Sciences cover the areas of technology, economics, social affairs and design. The teaching is aimed at different target groups: full-time and part-time students, professionals and those interested in further training, as well as dual students in bachelor , master and certification programs.

Research

Research projects in the fields of automotive, digital value creation, energy efficiency, production and materials as well as socio-economic innovations determine the well-networked research landscape at Munich University of Applied Sciences. Research and development take place in close cooperation with partners from business and society. This also ensures optimal practical relevance for university students. Because high-level research also includes the training of young scientists , the Munich University of Applied Sciences supports doctoral projects in cooperation with partner universities.

Career

The Career Center is a centralised service facility for students at Munich University of Applied Sciences. Our goal is to help future graduates kick-start their careers, improve their employment prospects and strengthen their ties with the working world.Throughout the semester, we organise events, workshops, talks and information materials for students to attend which focus on the following:

Student services

The central student advising office of the Munich University of Applied Sciences is located in the main university building (Lothstrasse 34) and provides advisory services in the following areas:

  • Choosing a career path and course of study
  • Financing your studies (grants and scholarships)
  • Psychological counselling
  • Study abroad and other international matters – Persons with disabilities

Housing services

Finding accommodation in Munich is difficult but not impossible. The majority of students here rely on private accommodation. Options include flat-sharing (approx. 400-600 € per month), private run residence halls (approx. 400-600€ per month) or a single-apartment (500-800 € per month). Universities in Germany don't own residence halls and don't provide students with rooms but give assistance in searching for accommodation.

Library services

The Karlstraße sub-library supplies the Department of Architecture with literature and information. The older book stock of the Karlstraße library comes from the Königlichen Bayerischen Baugewerkschule (Royal Bavarian Architectural School), founded in 1822, which was transferred to the Staatliche Bauschule (State Architectural School) Munich in 1909. 

ICT services

Computer labs for students are located at Lothstr. 34, Building G, first floor (main entrance). All terminals are equipped with internet access, Windows and Linux operating systems as well as SUN workstations for lectures. Students are also entitled to an e-mail account.

Campus life

The Karlstraße campus is located near Karlsplatz (Stachus), in the center of Munich. Around 2,050 students are trained in three faculties of the "Building Cluster":

Sports facilities

All students have access to the athletic facilities of the Olympic Village which was built for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. The ZHS (Zentraler Hochschulsport) publishes its program every semester and offers a large variety of sports. Dues range from 7.50 to 15.00 per semester.
