Studying in Kiev

In general, all Ukrainian universities start their academic year in September and ends in June.

Ukrainian is the main language of instruction, but you can also opt for Russian or English-taught courses, which are available only for some fields of study. You can deliver proof of language proficiency, as follows: TOUFL for Ukrainian, TORFL for Russian or IELTS for English. In some cases, you can take a language test at the university before enrolment.

Once admitted, all universities offer Ukrainian as a foreign language classes, for all levels, and you can apply for undergraduate pathway programmes for several subject areas.

In general, offerings of universities in Kiev cover only Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree courses. You can find a few MBA’s and you can also choose dual degree programmes.

Study disciplines like: economics, computing, psychology, law, linguistics, international relations, accounting, business administration, applied mathematics, sociology, journalism, architecture, pharmaceutical studies.

The only distance degree courses are specialised in finance and MBA.

Kiev covers the highest levels of business companies in the country. Kiev’s economy is continually developing, having a diverse palette of industries, like: retail, real estate, utilities, manufacturing of food and beverages, mechanical engineering.

Kiev city life

Once a Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, Kiev is a very interesting European city, covering some nice touristic attractions that speak for themselves about the history of this place.

Watch a music or play performance at the Kiev Opera House, or the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theatre of Russian Drama.

Kiev has a pretty rich night life so you can relax and enjoy a nice evening in a large number of pubs and night clubs. The Independence Square and Khreschatyk Street in the city centre is a large outdoor party place at night during summer months.

While in Kiev, you should try the traditional Ukrainian soup named borshch, the varenyky, the "Chicken Kiev" or the sweet pastry called Vatrushka.

International atmosphere in Kiev

Apart from the numerous international students, many ethnic communities have settled in Kiev. The foreign minorities include: Russians, Belarusians, Poles, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Georgians and Moldovans.

Home to several renowned multinational companies, the city is highly interested in attracting more foreign investment and since many international business people are either passing through Kiev or decide to locate here, you can always encounter foreigners from many parts of Europe.

Weather Kiev

Kiev has four seasons, with pretty warm summers and cold winters. The mean day temperatures in the summer months range between 14 to 25 °C (57 to 77 °F), while in the winter, temperatures are from -4 to -1 °C (24 to 30 °F). Snow usually occurs from mid-November to the end of March.
