This award was established in memory of their son, Mark Terhune BSc (Agr), BEd, MA. Mark was raised on the family farm and had a keen interest in the outdoors and rural issues.

- Selection will be based on academic performance as demonstrated by publications, letters of reference and research performance to date.
- Entering PhD student registered full-time in the Rural Studies Program.
