Description

Each year the Research School of Earth Sciences may offer an award known as the Ross Taylor PhD Supplementary Scholarship in Geochemistry.

Funding for this Award has been provided by generous donations from associates of Ross Taylor, and matching School funds.

Professor Taylor has made an outstanding contribution in geochemistry and as a pioneer of lunar science. His work spans the moon, the Earth's continental crust, island arc rocks and beyond. Fifty years ago, the Canberra scientist Professor Ross Taylor made one of the big discoveries about the nature of the moon. Professor Taylor was chosen by NASA as the best person to analyse the first moon rocks brought back by Apollo 11.

The launchpad for Taylor's success was the environment of excellence at ANU, which included an almost identical lab to NASA. Taylor's involvement with the moon was not his only contribution to science.

Benefits

Supplementary Scholarship of $8,000 per annum, paid fortnightly in arrears.

Eligibility

The Award will be available each year to a prospective student who is:

  • a domestic or international student; and
