Description

The goals of the Ernst Mach Grant - ASEA-UNINET are:

To promote research cooperation.

To promote young academics in the early stages of their scientific careers.

To establish an effective network of researchers with relations to Austria.

1. Monthly grant rate

Scholarship: EUR 1,250.

Monthly Mobility Subsidy: EUR 300.-- (for PhD research stays of more than 9 scholarship months)

Assistance in arranging accommodation and health insurance

It is possible for OeAD scholarship holders to book accommodation (dormitory or apartment) with the OeAD student housing. The monthly costs are:

monthly rent: EUR 300.-- to EUR 800, (depending on the amenities)

monthly administrative fee: currently EUR 21.

OeAD scholarship holders need to have health insurance that is accepted by the Austrian authorities for the duration of their stay in Austria.

Applicants from non-EU/EEA countries who are planning a research stay of more than 6 months: if the monthly costs for accommodation in Austria exceed EUR 300.--, proof of additional funds to the Austrian residence authority when applying for the residence permit may be required.

Eligibility

Applications are possible in the following scholarship categories:

  • Music Practice – Undergraduates and Graduates (students seeking or who have finished their Bachelor degree) in the field of music practice including: instrumental and vocal performance, composition, and conducting.
  • Full PhD – Postgraduates who seek to complete a full doctorate/PhD-programme in Austria, who fulfill the requirements for admission, and who have completed their studies at a higher education institution outside Austria.
  • Postdoc – Postdocs who are involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam.
  • Eligibility for application: Only those candidates who hold the citizenship of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam are eligible to apply for an Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-UNINET.
  • Applicants must not have studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the grant. Applicants who are already permanently residing in Austria or who have completed their academic education mainly in Austria are not eligible to apply.

Required documents for the application:

Research Proposal (5-10 pages)The applicant's proposal for an innovative research project should focus on specific research questions, and contain a clear and detailed description of the research directions and objectives as well as the methodological approach.

Letter of Consent (Letter of Acceptance) of the supervisor at the Austrian host university.

Two Letters of Recommendation by university lecturers. For these Letters of Recommendation, no specific form is required.

Passport scan (page with name and photo).

Scan of all university graduation certificates and a (rough) German or English translation.

In the field of Music Practice: Statement of Motivation (this replaces the Research Proposal) with video and/or music clips demonstrating the applicant's musical practice.
