Classical Archaeology and Ancient History
The classical Greek and Roman cultures form the focus of Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Uppsala University, which also encompasses the study of other classical Mediterranean cultures from the Early Bronze Age to the first Byzantian era.
Greek and Byzantine Studies
Within the framework of Greek and Byzantine Studies texts written in Greek from about 700 BCE up until the 15th century are studied. Methodologically, a number of specializations are represented at Uppsala University, such as textual criticism, literary studies, language history and codicology.
Assyriology
Assyriology at Uppsala University consists of two main parts: a philological and linguistic study of Akkadian (Assyrian-Babylonian) and Sumerian cuneiform texts from various periods and of a wide range of different types, and partly a study of the archaeology, political and cultural history, and the history of religion in the entire ancient Near East.
Egyptology
Egyptological study and research combines modern archaeological methods and practises with sophisticated linguistic and philological investigation of ancient texts. This Egyptology programme is offered at Uppsala University.
