Overview

The English Language and Literature programme at the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University aims to enable students to achieve advanced critical thinking ability to make original comments on the works they read, to transfer them and to contribute to existing literary theories with new ways of thinking.

Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to demonstrate expert knowledge of English language and English literature at the doctoral level, and English culture at proficiency level.

The student will be able to apply expert knowledge of literature in general, literary genres, concepts and terms at the doctoral level.

The student will be able to utilize expert knowledge to define the characteristics of the genres of English literature and its representative texts following historical, social, cultural, economic, philosophical and ecological backgrounds through research on the doctoral level.

The student will be able to develop advanced critical, creative and analytical thinking skills.

Candidates should hold a master's degree in English language and literature or American culture and literature with a thesis.,

Candidates (only Turkish candidates) should get at least 55 points from “Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES).

candidates should hold at least 80 points from English Language Examination such as YDS or YOKDIL (English) or internationally recognised language (English) exams accepted by ÖSYM such as TOEFL

Graduates of a master's programme without a thesis dissertation cannot apply for a doctoral programme.
