The mission of the PhD Program in Clinical and Translational Science at University of Pisa is to prepare and train internationally competitive translational scientists.


To provide a comprehensive knowledge of translational research methods and techniques in clinical science in order to train and further prepare scientists, by enriching their curriculum with a high degree of cross-contamination between neighboring research areas.

  • Accurately select, use and interpret appropriate statistical approaches
  • Apply and use adeguate study design and methodology to address research questions

  • Adhere to legal and regulatory issues related to clinical research
  • Publish research-based manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals
  • Provide constructive insight and feedback to colleagues

The program covers five broad research fields
  • Endocrinology, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Medicine;
  • Oncology and Molecular Medicine;
  • Imaging, Simulation and Planning;
  • Immunology and Microbiology;
  • Neuroscience

The application procedure consists of the following steps:

During the online application, the following documents must be uploaded:
  • the curriculum together with any relevant documentation
  • a research project (only if indicated in the Attachment of the competition available at the bottom of the page)
  • the degree of study accompanied by the documents referred to in Article 3 of the competition notice (only for holders of a foreign degree)
