History course at University of Pisa intends to form young scholars highly qualified in the study of history in its widest perspective – both chronological (from the Ancieny Orient to our days) and geographical – able to produce original work. 


The multifaceted formation provided by the History course at University of Pisa, open to the new trends of research, should be able to create not only scholars engaged in academia but also people destined to run libraries, archives, museums, and to organise cultural events etc.

Programme Structure

The didactic activity will be constituted by lectures and seminars given by Italian and foreign scholars and by seminars in which the students present their work, while the thesis must show that the same students are ready to start their activity in the field of research and/or highly qualified intellectual work. Given the international character of the Course, the students will be encouraged to spend at least six months of work in foreign universities. Co-tutorship of theses is highly appreciated.

  • the curriculum together with any relevant documentation
  • a research project (only if indicated in the Attachment of the competition available at the bottom of the page)
  • the degree of study accompanied by the documents referred to in Article 3 of the competition notice (only for holders of a foreign degree)
