The University of Pisa, Florence and Siena have a strong tradition of research in the Classical Studies and Archeology field and join their forces to create a doctorate course of highest level in order to develop a research about many aspects of the ancient world for the enhancement of the cultural heritage.


Pegaso Joint Doctorate Program in Classical Studies and Archeology at University of Pisa guarantees an international environment to his Fellows:

  • foreign scholars are involved in the didactic of the course and in the Doctoral Board
  • the course incourages stays abroad and co-tutoring of thesis (Doctor Europaeus)
  • seminars and workshops are held not only in Italian but also in English, French, German and Spanish

Programme Structure

The project has three curricula: Archeology, Philology and Anthropology of the Ancient World. The course has an interdiscinplinary approach and will offer seminars (following the ECTS credit standard), internships and stages in reaserch istitutions about the Ancient World in Italy and abroad.

  • Anthropology of the Ancient World
  • Archaeology
  • Classical Philology

This programme may require students to demonstrate proficiency in English.

The application procedure consists of the following steps:
  • registration of personal data on the website;
  • registration for the application process.

During the online application, the following documents must be uploaded:

  • the curriculum together with any relevant documentation
  • a research project (only if indicated in the Attachment of the competition available at the bottom of the page)
  • the degree of study accompanied by the documents referred to in Article 3 of the competition notice (only for holders of a foreign degree)
