Program Overview
While pre-clinical departments conduct and supervise research mainly in laboratories, clinical departments do so in both laboratories and clinical settings. Research students of the Faculty enjoy the benefits of working in state-of-the-art laboratories and technologically advanced core facilities.
The Faculty attracts high-calibre candidates to enroll in its research postgraduate programmes. The Doctor of Philosophy program at The University of Hong Kong is not only popular among graduates in medical disciplines, graduates in physical sciences, engineering, computer sciences and social sciences are also encouraged to apply.

Research component
Candidates are required to undertake research studies in a chosen field of study under supervision of at least one supervisor. The result of the research, presented in the form of a thesis, must be submitted for examination by the end of the prescribed period of study.
Potential applicants are encouraged to find out more about the current research areas projects offered and contact the relevant supervisors prior to submitting an application.

4-year PhD: 4 Graduate School compulsory courses (Introduction to Thesis Writing, Research Ethics for Graduate Students, Transferable Skills, Research Methods) and 3 Medical Faculty Research Postgraduate electives

HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme (HKU-PS)

Cash award: HK$40,000 in 1st year; HK$20,000 per year in the remaining normative study period
