Overview

Research at the Department of Business and Management Science aims to understand and improve management practice using analytical methods. As a PhD Research Scholar at NHH, you will join our diverse faculty, whose members possess backgrounds in economics, finance, operations research, mathematics and statistics, and engage in both empirical and theoretical research inquiries.

Every PhD Research Scholars is integrated into the Department’s international research network and is provided with office space, computer facilities and administrative support. We make a particular effort to include the PhD Research Scholars in the research activities at the department and faculty members are dedicated to guiding and supporting PhD Research Scholars in their research education.

 

The research portfolio includes a number of topics, and is organised in six areas:

  • Incentives, Contracts and Firm Behaviour
  • Investments, Insurance and Household Finance
  • Business Taxation
  • Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability
  • Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management
  • Data Science and Analytics

Programme Structure

The PhD specialisation in Business and Management Science consists of a scientific thesis and an educational training component equivalent to a minimum of 45 credits. Courses in the specialisation include topics such as:

General requirements

    • Master of Science (MSc) or comparable degree relevant for your specialisation (e.g. MSc in Economics and Business Administration, Social Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Industry, Management, Law). Applicants must normally have completed a 5-year master’s degree programme.

    -          Minimum B (4) in Grade Point Average (GPA), five-point scale (A=five, B=four, C=three, D=two, E=one).

    -          Minimum B (4) on your master thesis.

    • One of the following English Language Proficiency Tests:

    -          TOEFL written test: a minimum score of 575 points

    -          TOEFL computer-based test: a minimum score of 233 points

    -          TOEFL internet-based test: a minimum score of 90 points

    -          IELTS tests: a minimum score of 6,5 points

    -          PTE Academic: a minimum score of 62
