Input and Output Profiles
- The Museum Studies programme from IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca aims at providing specific know-hows to prospective professionals operating in the fields of museums, providing a deep knowledge on curatorship.
- Prospective students should preferably have an undergraduate background in the Social Sciences, the Humanities (i.e. Archaeology and Art History), but it is open to other type of background (management of cultural heritage).
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The research carried out within the RUs is closely connected to the School’s PhD program. In fact, every PhD student is affiliated to a Research Unit and contributes to the research and projects carried out therein.
- Several RUs are affiliated with highly-specialized laboratories, and the entire School relies on the computation power and cloud-based facilities of the IMT Computer Lab.

General requirements
- Applications for the PhD Programs can only be submitted electronically. Applicants must fill out the online application form (registration required), providing personal data and attaching the required documents. Basic instructions for the submission procedure will be provided after registration. Applications cannot be submitted after the deadline.
- Applicants must select the desired PhD Program/Track for which they wish to apply. Candidates can also apply to more than one PhD Program/Track; in this case, they are required to submit one application for each PhD Program/Track selected.
Tuition Fee
All PhD students admitted are exempt from paying tuition fees. They’ll pay only the yearly Regional Education Tax of 140 Euros.
Living costs for Lucca
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
