The subject is multi- and interdisciplinary, integrating theories and methods from social sciences and the humanities. The focus lies on transnational migration, ethnic diversity, and citizenship.
The field of research within the Ethnic and Migration Studies programme at Linköping University covers numerous subjects such as working life, ethnicity and identity formation, ethnic conflicts, gender, globalization and regionalization, cultural history, nationalism, North-South and East-West relations, political economy, political governance, populism, racism, sexuality, social movements, language, urban processes, and education.
