We do work on everything from biogeochemical, hydrological and geomorphological processes to the evolution, chemical composition, behaviour, interaction and spread of various organisms.
Features
- In the Environmental Science programme from Umea University, we also study the biodiversity of many different species groups and the effects of human intervention, the ways various nature types interact as well as landscape features from current and historical perspectives.

Curriculum:
- We use a broad spectrum of methods, such as mathematics models, laboratory and field experiments and long-term environmental monitoring.
- The scale varies from the molecular to the global.
- Our research is focused on the northern ecosystems but also touches upon ecosystems on other latitudes and questions of global importance.

General requirements
- To fulfil the specific entry requirements to be admitted for studies at third-cycle level within the subject of environmental science, the applicant is required to have completed courses within a firstcycle subject relevant to environmental science comprising at least 120 credits.
- At least one course at second-cycle level in a subject that is central to the doctoral student's planned specialisation shall have been completed, as well an independent piece of work (degree project) with relevant specialisation of at least 15 credits.
