Overview
The Department of Language, Literature and Communication at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam attaches importance to the social value of its research results. This means that new knowledge and insights are translated into practical applications in education, healthcare, business and IT.
LLC also takes part in the Dutch National Research Agenda, because it shares the conviction that listening to social partners is a great source of future research.
Social engagement
The endowed professors in the department are affiliated to research institutes and social organizations, such as the Dutch Reading Foundation. This strengthens the relation between university and society at large. The endowed chairs are in the areas of hearing disorders and reading and reading promotion.

- You should have a supervisor before you can start your PhD. You can contact the researchers directly or via the Graduate School of Humanities, to review the possibilities.
- Please note that a master or equivalent degree is needed to be admitted to the PhD track.
