You are enrolled as a PhD candidate in the Graduate School of Science at Leiden University. During your PhD track, you will not only work on your manuscript, but also take part in courses focusing on academic skills, as well as transferable skills.

PhD candidates follow courses to develop academic skills as well as transferable skills.

The courses are organised and offered by HRM Learning & Development of Leiden University.

Advanced courses to deepen scientific knowledge are offered by the research institutes.

General requirements

Thank you for your interest in doing PhD research at the Leiden Graduate School of Science. The Graduate School of Science offers 9 PhD Programmes, spanning the entire spectrum of science.

If you have a Master's degree, are proficient in English, and share a fascination with science, it may be possible to pursue a PhD degree at the Leiden Graduate School of Science.

External PhD candidates receive their funding from other sources than Leiden University or PhD grants. External PhD candidates are not allowed to teach in the regular curriculum.
