Overview
About the programme
Many of today’s problems can only be apprehended from an interdisciplinary perspective: economic problems have cultural roots, cultural ones have economic causes. The exploration of multidisciplinary problems constitutes the central point of doctoral studies in Organization Studies and Cultural Theory.
For this purpose, the programme integrates the core subjects of the University of St. Gallen (HSG), organizational research and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). It makes systematic use of theories from social and cultural science in order to interpret, explore and reflect on social and organizational issues.
The DOK imparts competencies that enable graduates to face the central social challenges of the present day in an effective manner and to develop attractive options for the future.
Programme Structure
Studies are divided into a coursework stage and a research stage:- The coursework stage consists of basic courses, specialisation courses and integration courses.
- At the research stage, you will write your thesis and continue to pursue your education autonomously in cooperation with your supervisor, take part in congresses or even publish initial parts of your thesis.
- Thesis-related colloquia are intended to advance your interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary competencies with the help of your own thesis project in discussion with your fellow students and with faculty members.
