About the programme
English and Education conducts research in both English linguistics and literature, where the subject’s teaching practice is studied in conjunction with the English language and its literary and cultural expressions.
Our research focus ranges from textbooks and vocabulary acquisition to children’s literature and film studies. Together with other research subjects, we contribute to ensuring the scientific competence within the teacher education programmes at at Luleå University of Technology.

General requirements
- An applicant meets the general entry requirements for doctoral (third-cycle) studies if he or she has been awarded a Master’s (second-cycle) qualification, has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle credits, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in another way, in Sweden or elsewhere
- The applicant shall have at least 120 credits in linguistics, literature, second language acquisition or language education, of which 30 were acquired at an advanced level and include a degree project of at least 15 credits. The applicant must also have a very good command of oral and written communication in English.
