About the programme

Applied Geophysics at Luleå University of Technology includes studies of how the laws and methods of physics can be used to understand the properties of bedrock and soil deposits.

This includes development and applications of methods for exploration and investigation of natural resources such as mineral deposits and water, as well as investigation of environmental and infrastructural related issues.

Programme Structure

Research topics include:

detection of contaminants in soil and water
leakage of dust cells (hydropower, landfill)
projection of rock strength
localization of potential ore
paleomagmetism (continental drift, historical variations in the earth's magnetic field intensity, the dating of sediments)
rocks' physical properties
determination of geological structures
