About

Mineral Processing at Luleå University of Technology deals with the unit operations and processes for treating particulate solids, primarily metal ores, industrial minerals and solid fuels, but also residues and recyclable waste material as well as products from the processing industry.

Overview

About the programme

The aim of the doctoral studies in Mineral Processing is to give the doctoral student specialised knowledge in Mineral Processing, in-depth knowledge of different research methods and a good understanding of the challenges related to research and its practical application.

The overall objective of the programme at Luleå University of Technology is that the doctoral student develops into a critical and autonomous researcher in Mineral Processing, able to plan and carry out research projects.

Programme Structure

Research:

  • The theoretical research aims at the physics-based description of the unit operations in mineral processing in terms of process models. In addition to a deeper understanding of the process the capabilities of predictive calculation of the process even with changed input variables (material flow parameters, control and design parameters) shall be provided.
  • The model application within a simulation approach allows the analysis of complex processes. The development and application of methodologies for process design and optimization are additional, system-oriented research topics.
