Overview
About the programme
Solid mechanics is a classical engineering subject, which historically played a major role in the development of industry and infrastructure. Today it is a modern discipline, which in interaction with related research areas is the prerequisite for function and strength of present and future advanced structural materials and mechanical components.
The research in Solid Mechanics at Luleå University of Technology is mainly oriented towards the areas of material modeling, nonlinear dynamics and fracture mechanics. The applications come from the industrial product that includes both modeling and simulation of manufacturing processes such as analysis of product function.
Programme Structure
Important research areas include:
- the modelling and simulation of production processes
- the analysis of the function of products
- the development of models for both solid and granular material behaviour and their interaction
- the analysis of thermo-mechanical forming of ultra high strength components for the automotive industry
