In this Space and Society doctoral programme at University of Bayreuth in human geography, physical geography and didactics of geography, a wide variety of spatial processes are researched from social/cultural, natural scientific, and didactic perspectives, and at various levels of scale.

Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The doctoral programme is firmly integrated into the various focus areas of the University of Bayreuth in the fields of interculturality and migration, transformation and development, spatial order and territoriality, teaching and teaching research as well as natural processes and social-environmental interaction.
- The established fields include ecology and environmental sciences as well as African studies.
- The Institute of Geography is also involved in the Cluster of Excellence 'Africa multiple', which has been funded for an initial period of seven years since the start of 2019 as part of of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and States.

General requirements
- A short letter of application explaining your personal motivation to work at MatKat.
- A short curriculum vitae with list of publications, if available.
- A copy of your university entrance qualification (Abitur certificate).
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees (or diploma degrees) from a field of study that is directly related to the doctoral programme (e.g. physics, chemistry, biochemistry, material sciences).
- If an applicant has passed all relevant examinations but no certificates have yet been issued (e.g. Master's certificate), alternative proof of academic achievement ("confirmation citing the individual grades of all academic achievements") can be submitted.
- Where available, evidence of special qualifications (e.g. vocational training, awards, internships, scholarships, stays abroad), if these relate to the content of the doctoral programme.
- Three suggested specialist mentors.
Tuition Fee
The University of Bayreuth does not charge tuition fees. The only contribution that must be made is the semester fee.
