The Physics program at Brock University will prepare students for successful careers in industry, academic and other institutions, and organizations. Hands-on use of our sophisticated equipment provides excellent training and gives our graduates a significant advantage in the job market.
Recent research activities have been geared towards applied material science, involving the study of amorous and quasicrystalline alloys, high-Tc superconductors in the form of single crystals as well as thin films, optical properties of semi-conductor oxides, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies in model biological membranes.

General requirements
- Students can be admitted into the PhD program after successful completion of an MSc degree or equivalent in Physics or closely related discipline, with at least an 80% overall average.
- In exceptional cases, a student may be admitted directly to the PhD program with a four-year honours Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent; their academic standing and research potential must be demonstrably commensurate with readiness for doctoral study.
You will need to submit your transcripts as well as the following program specific materials:
- Two academic references are required.
- A statement of research interests
- The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) — recommended for international students, but not required
