Close collaborations are established with the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg, the University of Technology in Sydney (Australia), Edith-Cowan University in Perth (Australia), the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre (Norway) and the University of Basle (Switzerland).

- The University of Technology Sydney and Saarland University further agreed on a shared Science and Health in Football PhD program offering the possibility for a double degree from both Universities.
- The progam aims at improving the scientific approach to football, in particular at evaluating its potential health benefits and at further developing training standards and performance diagnosis for elite football players.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- Each PhD student works on a specific research project and is jointly supervised by two supervisors.
- A multidisciplinary study schedule, including courses on the theoretical background of the research topics, practical work in performance diagnosis, teaching and transferable skills courses complements the program.
- The Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine at the Saarland University is the main research and teaching environment.
- It is a licensed FIFA (Féderation International of Football Association) Medical Centre of Excellence and a Medical Examination Centre of the German Olympics Sports Federation (DOSB).
- Due to activites with highly trained football players and the long-term extensive cooperation with the German Football Federation (DFB) it offers a profound expertise in football science and medical care for athletes and patients.

- In order to be considered as an applicant for the program, candidates must have completed (or be in the process of completing) a Master´s degree or equivalent degree including a thesis in a field related to medicine, sports science, exercise physiology, human biology or neighbouring fields. In rare occasions, applications from excellent candidates with only a Bachelor degree may also be considered for the program.
