Overview
Within the biomedical sciences in Germany there is a striking discrepancy between internationally competitive basic research and poorly developed patient-oriented and clinical research.
Overview
Thus, there is a critical need for postgraduate programs that train young medical and natural science graduates in basic and translational research to enable them to become future leaders in the fields of biomedicine and translational research, in academia, the public sector, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry.
The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Research School of Translational Biomedicine (TransMed) addresses this need by providing an integrated, multidisciplinary training curriculum in all aspects of translational medicine.
Programme Structure
The TransMed Training Program consists of:- a Pre-TransMed phase (addressing teaching in academic biomedicine in medical school during e.g. during acquisition of the "Dr. med." within the MAInz-Doc Graduate School for Medical Students),
- a Core-TransMed phase (with fellowships for both MD/PhD and PhD candidates performing projects in biomedical translational science within a structured, mentor-based program), and
- a Post-TransMed phase (providing aid in obtaining first third-party funding, during PostDoc phases and/or while submitting the habilitation thesis).
