Overview
Candidates are required to attend and pass Research Methodology course within the first two semesters of candidature and all the graduation requirements before being conferred the Degree. The medium of thesis is in Malay or English,or Arabic, but under special circumstances, the Senate may approve the use of a language other than Malay, English or Arabic for the thesis concerned.

General requirements
- A Master’s degree from recognized universities. Holder of bachelor degrees with CGPA of 3.7 and above can apply directly for the PhD programme, or other qualifications approved by the Senate from time to time.
- Before registering, international candidates who are writing their thesis in English are required to obtain at least a band 5.5 for IELTS or a score of 550 for the paper based total, a score of 213 for computer-based total or a score of 80 for internet-based total for TOEFL if their first and master's degrees were not obtained from a university that uses English Language as the medium of instruction.
