About the program

The Genetics and Selection of Crops program from Kazakh Agro-Technical Research University (KATRU) will help you:

Identify the current problems of breeding and seed production of field crops, use modern methods and techniques to accelerate the selection process to create new varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops. Demonstrate knowledge to create high-yielding varieties with high resistance to abiotic and biotic environmental factors. Organize scientifically based seed production, compare schemes for the introduction of varieties and hybrids into agricultural production.
To analyze the state and prospects of increasing crop yields, to conduct an experiment for the practical solution of the problem demanded by society, including planning and developing schemes and methods of agronomic research, to lay and conduct field, laboratory and other experiments.
Carry out statistical and mathematical processing of the results, summarize the results of experiments and arrange scientific results in accordance with the requirements.
Describe the technique of preparing letters, know the principles of creating an essay. Determine the basics of bibliography, make a summary of a scientific article, formulate an academic letter on the topic of research.
Knowledge of modern methods of molecular genetics in breeding research. Distinguish marker-mediated selection from other selection methods. Show knowledge about genetic markers of crops, about gene mapping, genome sequencing. Analyze and evaluate the practical use of molecular methods of plant breeding, including genetic transformation, genome editing.
To know the ecological-physiological and physiological-biochemical aspects of the resistance of agricultural plants to stress, to characterize the mechanisms of adaptation of plants to adverse environmental factors and to choose ways to manage plant resistance. Analyze and develop optimal conditions for the vital activity of agricultural plants, taking into account biological features.
