Overview
Our mission is the training of highly motivated students in the Information Technology field. The Information Technology programme from Politecnico di Milano consists of classroom courses and independent study, both aimed at developing advanced research skills and competence on innovative topics. The research activity of our PhD students is expected to generate research results that can be recognized by the international community
Career
Holders of a PhD degree in Information Technology have access to positions at the highest levels of scientific research in IT and related areas. Depending on their interests and ambitions, PhD’s may decide to move towards an academic or industrial career, either in Italy or abroad. Many of our past students are now active researchers both in academia, research centers, and high-tech companies worldwide. Some of them established their own companies, and some achieved leading managerial positions in large companies.

General requirements
In order to access the Politecnico di Milano PhD programmes it is necessary to have one of these qualifications:
- a university degree obtained under the educational system in force prior to M.D. n. 509 dated 3.11.1999
- a Laurea Specialistica (equivalent to a Master of Science) obtained in accordance with M.D. n. 509 dated 3.11.1999
- a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) obtained in accordance with M.D. n. 270 dated 22.10.2004
- or similar academic qualifications obtained abroad that are equivalent in terms of duration and contents to the Italian qualifications and previously recognised by the Judging Panels.
- Where there are foreign qualifications, applicants must submit all documents required to enable the Selection Committee to establish the eligibility of the qualifications obtained abroad.
Tuition Fee
Regional fee, stamp duties and insurance costs will be withheld each year from the first monthly grant. Actually this amount is equal to Euro 167,04.
Living costs for Milano
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
For the three-year duration of their studies, PhD candidates may be supported by scholarships.
