Overview
On the Wind Energy programme from Technical University of Denmark (DTU) PhD students carry out an important part of the research of the Department.
They also have industrial PhDs, which means that they are partly funded by companies and spend a part of their time there.
How do you become a PhD student at DTU Wind Energy
- National as well as international candidates may apply for the programme. We are seeking highly qualified candidates with good grades and a focused interest in research.
- According to the PhD Act issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the PhD education in Denmark is rated at 180 ECTS points equivalent to 3 years of full time study

- You can be admitted as a PhD student at DTU at any time of the year. The actual studies can however not begin until the month after the academic approval.

General requirements
To be admitted as a PhD student, an applicant must have satisfactory results from one of the following exams:
- A Danish Master’s degree in engineering.
- A Master’s degree (based on two years of master’s studies equivalent to 120 ECTS points) from a Danish, long-cycle higher educational programme which, in the estimation of the relevant PhD school, gives the applicant the qualifications necessary to complete the course of study in question.
- The examinations of international students are evaluated on the basis of information as to the length and content of their studies. Such examinations must at least be at a level equivalent to a Danish examination qualifying the holder for direct admission. The evaluation of the level of an applicant may take place using tests conducted by the potential PhD school and approved by the head of the PhD school.
- An official translation of the foreign MSc diploma must be submitted together with the application.
