The Communications Engineering Doctoral Degree Program from University of Oulu conducts world-class research and provides education in the field of wireless communications engineering.

Key facts

Established in 1995, CWC provides high quality bachelor, master and doctoral level education in wireless communications and radio frequency (RF) engineering.

It consists of two research units: CWC - Radio Technologies and CWC - Networks and Systems. These units provide doctoral students supervision and education in communications engineering doctoral degree program.

Research

Research areas cover radio frequency engineering, signal processing and machine learning for wireless systems, wireless communications engineering for different layers, networking, and various vertical applications of wireless systems, technologies, and networks.

CWC employs personnel of almost 200 including 17 professors, 15 other senior scientists, more than 30 postdoctoral researchers and over 70 doctoral students. CWC leads national 6G Flagship program which paves the way to the next generation mobile systems.

General requirements

Suitability of the field of major:

The Doctoral Programme Committee will evaluate if your previous degree aligns with the major that you are applying for.

Good academic performance:

The relevant university-level Master’s degree (or equivalent) must have been completed with good grades (3/5, or at least 60% of the maximum grade, in both coursework and master's thesis). If the credit-weighted average grade or the Master’s thesis mark does not meet the requirements, you may, in exceptional cases, compensate for lower grades with complementary studies before applying for the study rights.

The relevant master's degree from a university of applied sciences, either from Finland or abroad must have been completed with very good grades (4/5 or at least 80 % of the maximum score for both coursework and the thesis). The doctoral training capabilities will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the major subject.
