PhD students are generally expected to commence their studies on the first day of September or January. In exceptional circumstances, candidates may also commence their studies on the first day of other calendar months. Students are also generally expected to complete the degree within the following time-limits. The minimum study period is half of the normative study period.

a Bachelor's degree with honours and a research Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university
