Overview

Jointly offered by the School of Medicine and the School of Life and Health Sciences, the PhD in Public Health equips candidates with advanced interdisciplinary expertise across medicine, healthcare, biological, environmental, and social sciences, preparing them to become independent scholars and researchers in the field of public health.

At the core of this interdisciplinary program, students receive specialized training in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Research Methodology. Through taught courses and distinguished guest lecture series, students engage with high-priority public health issues, including climate change, pandemic response and preparedness, tackling health misinformation, lifestyle and chronic disease epidemiology, reproductive epidemiology and women’s health, active and healthy ageing, and population health intelligence (Precision Public Health).

Graduates will be able to contribute effectively to public health policy, research, and practice, providing high-level scientific and professional support at both national and international levels.

General requirements

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Health Sciences or a related field, or possess extensive relevant formal education, such as a Medical Degree (M.D.).
Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance, with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of B or above in their Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification), in accordance with the grading system of European University Cyprus.
The PhD Academic Program of Study Committee evaluates applicants based on their academic achievements, relevant qualifications, statement of research interests, and proposed research areas. Short-listed candidates are subsequently invited to participate in an interview process.
Following a review of the applicants’ previous academic studies and disciplinary background, the Committee reserves the right to request that admitted candidates complete specified postgraduate courses and/or successfully pass designated assessments prior to formal admission to the program.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent proficiency in the language of instruction of the program, as well as very good knowledge of a second language. For more information on recognized language qualifications, please view here.
In exceptional cases, the School may consider transfer applications from comparable programs offered by other accredited universities.
