Programme Structure

Within the context of doctoral studies, doctoral candidates must generally provide required transcripts of grades for all doctoral level courses/seminars, amounting to at least 24 ECTS credits. If passed, courses and lectures taken at well-estsablished, recognized institutions offering doctoral degree programs may be counted without grades according to their respective levels, even if transcripts are not provided upon request. A maximum of 50% of the required credits may be accepted without grades. The credits earned are documented in a Diploma Supplement.

The doctoral program is organized within the framework of the ProDocs, which is funded by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS).

General Requirements

For admission to doctoral study, with the goal of attaining the title of Dr. admin.publ. at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Law, candidates must have attained the title of Master in Public Management and Policy or, at the University of Bern, the title of Master in Economics or Business Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Law, or a corresponding Licentiate, with an overall grade point of at least 4.75.

Equivalent specialized diplomas from other Swiss or foreign universities may be recognized from the most closely associated faculties.
