The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. Established in 2004, with the full approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education, we are run by The University of Nottingham with co-operation from Zhejiang Wanli Education Group. Ningbo was ranked in Forbes’ list of the top 7th cities for business in China.


All our courses are taught in English and aim to equip you with a deep understanding of your subject as well as skill relevant to your future career.

Our courses are taught by academics who are passionate about their subjects and who are, in many cases, world authorities in their field. They are recruited from top universities around the world or seconded from The University of Nottingham in the UK.

The teaching approach at UNNC is shaped and informed by The University of Nottingham, UK. Our degrees run parallel to degrees offered at the University of Nottingham, UK, and are subject to the same quality assurance processes.

As an international university, we seek to locate our courses in the global context.

In the recent independent assessment by the QAA, the University was awarded a rating of between 22 and 24, out of a maximum of 24, in a total of 39 subjects.

In the Times and The Guardian league tables Nottingham has 29 academic schools/department ranked in the Top 10 by subject, and 14 ranked in the Top 5.


Our graduates have found jobs with leading global companies such as AB InBev, Google, Hilton, IKEA, KPMG, Nestle, PwC and Standard Chartered Bank, as well as prominent Chinese employers such as Bank of China and Wahaha.

Student services

At UNNC we welcome students from a range of backgrounds and cultures. As a student here, you will be part of a thriving community of nearly 7,500 students . We have over 750international students from more than 70 different countries and regions worldwide.

Housing services

All students are guaranteed accommodation once they have gained and accepted a place. Our purpose-built secure campus offers two accommodation buildings for international students. However, should they wish to, students can also choose to live in the local student accommodation buildings. The accommodation fee is USD 1,500 and USD 2,000 seperately. This includes:

  • Exclusive occupation of a single room and/or joint occupation of a shared common room for the duration of the fixed term
  • Use of all the facilities in your residence and use of shared facilities.
It does not include fuel, water, internet access and the other following costs.

Library services

The library offers a range of services:

  • collections covering all UNNC subjects
  • electronic collections including ebooks, ejournals and databases
  • support for learning technologies such as Moodle
It is responsible for managing information resources for learning, teaching and research, and providing support for their use.

Medical services

The University has its own Health Clinic on campus (near building 11) with both doctors and nurses. This offeres students a doorstep port of call for any illnesses they may experience.

The Clinic is able to make referrals to relevant hospitals in Ningbo or Shanghai. Our English speaking medical advisors are available to accompany you to a local hospital when necessary.

Student Life

Campus life

The University is in the Yinzhou district of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, on China’s prosperous east coast.

Our 144 acre (584,666m²) secure campus is located in the Ningbo Higher Education Park and features many attractive spaces, including Chinese and English gardens symbolising the partnership behind our success.

Lush planting, rivers and lakes attract many different types of birds and wildlife and we have our own version of The University of Nottingham's Trent Building, complete with clock tower.

Getting into the centre of Ningbo is easy with the multiple bus routes that pass by our campus. A single bus journey to Tianyi Square, in the heart of Ningbo, will cost just two CNY and take about 45 minutes.

Sports facilities

The campus houses a whole range of both indoor and outdoor sports facilities. including the gym are free to use.Outdoor facilities on campus include:

Each year The University of Nottingham Ningbo China runs its very own Tri Campus Games. Students have the opportunities to be selected for a University of Nottingham Ningbo China team and compete against fellow students.

Student clubs

There are dozens of clubs and societies to join, with events year-round for the serious-minded and fun-loving alikes. You can choose to get involved in a range of activities, from taking part in martial arts to joining the student television channel’s production team. Dramatic, dance and musical talents are also catered for, with student festivals and talent shows providing additional entertainment on campus.


Both BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering and BEng Mechatronic Engineering have been accredited by IET ,The Institution of Engineering and Technology;BEng Mechanical Engineering has been accredited by IMechE,Institution of Mechanical Engineers and IED,Institution of Engineering Designers.
