The engineering training at the Chemnitz alma mater has a more than 175-year tradition. Already in 1836 founded the "Royal Gewerbschule Chemnitz" the reputation of the educational institution. Here studied and taught in the past personalities who performed essential to the development of science and technology.

Since 2005 the institute of Education is the central institution for research and teaching for Education at TU Chemnitz. It offers both 'Bachelor Education Studies' and 'Master Education and Learning Culture Studies'.

The five professorships of the Institute of Education (General Education, Education/Educational Research, Adult Education/Continuing Education, Education of Profession and Economics as well as Intercultural Education) discuss questions of education and Bildung in different contexts and referred to different target groups.

Chemnitz University of Technology stands for internationally competitive cutting-edge research dealing with future-oriented key themes of global demand. In this respect, the university is characterized by its special brand of trans-disciplinary networking as well as by focussing on three core competencies.

Technische Universität Chemnitz is particularly committed to the needs of early-career academics intending to take a doctoral degree. The aim is to provide favourable conditions for the research of early-career academics, doctoral candidates and postdocs. Against this background, the Centre for Junior Scientists was established in 2014.
